SELF AND FAMILY HAPPINESS

In the Heiress Films documentary, "Making Families Happy", a group of elite psychologists sets out to help three Australian families as they navigate their way through a world-first experiment to make them happier.

One strategy they used to make the families happy was to let them spent time passing out flowers to people at the High Street mall.

They discovered that helping others was associated with high levels of positive mental and emotional health.

"Showing kindness and giving things helps the giver to be happier and reduce stress and discomfort tendencies", they concluded.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE SAY?

The Psychologists above are proving what God's word has always said for millennia.

"Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again." (Luke 6:38 KJV).

"I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive." (Acts 20:35 KJV).

"Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7 KJV).

Isaiah said, "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? ......Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?" (Isaiah 58:6-7 KJV).

He concluded that the benefits of meeting needs in others is that, "Thy light shall break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy rereward." (Isaiah 58:8 KJV).

People who live for themselves and do nothing for others will end up finding that they are a problem to themselves.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Spot a need and be the first to fill it.

Let this start with the small things like doing extra household chores for each other in the family, work or church.

Do not complain over the need - meet it.

The recipient will benefit immensely, so will you as the giver.

BIBLE VERSE TO MEDITATE ON:

“Deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?” (Isaiah 58:7 ASV).

"Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily; and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of Jehovah shall be thy rearward. Then shalt thou call, and Jehovah will answer; thou shalt cry, and he will say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly;” (Isaiah 58:8-9 ASV
