POWER TIME WORD DAILY DEVOTION

BIBLE READING:
Ezra 7:10
Psalms 42:1
1 Peter 2:2.
Deuteronomy 6:6-8
2 Timothy 2:15
2 Corinthians 4:13
Joshua 1:8

When babies are born, doctors and midwives pat them at the back so they can cry, and thus start breathing through the lungs.

Soon afterwards, the baby is brought to the mother where she instinctively starts sucking milk from her.

Well, you no longer need mother's milk to grow.

You grow spiritually by the word of God and the Bible says, "As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby." (1 Peter 2:2 KJV).

It is a command to desire.

What this means is that if you feel stuck because you don’t have the kind of spiritual desires that you should, this text says, You do not need to be stuck!

It says, Get the desires you don’t have.

If you do not desire the milk of the Word, start desiring it!

But it still is amazing.

A command to desire!

A command to feel longings you do not feel.

A command to feel desires you do not have.

You may be tempted to be fatalistic and say, "I can’t just create the desire."

"If there is no desire, it just ain't there", you may continue to say.

The psalmist sung, "As a deer pants for the flowing streams so my soul pants for you, O God." (Psalm 42:1).

Still you may say, "If I don’t feel that way toward God, then that’s that. I just don’t. I'm not like the psalmist."

That is the dangerous voice of spiritual fatalism.

Desire the pure milk of the word.

Now before you raise all kinds of objections, like, "How can you command me to have a desire? What can I do to obey a command like that? How do I just produce a desire?"

There is a way out.

You can ask God to create in you the miracle of longing for his word, just as a baby will instinctively have a desire for milk which she has never tested before.

RECOMMENDED ACTION

Ask God to help you have a desire and a longing for his word.

Start or continue to have a regular way of reading (Deuteronomy 6:6-8) and studying (2 Timothy 2:15) the word of God.

Cultivate taking use of God's word by meditating (Joshua 1:8) on what you read and speaking it (2 Corinthians 4:13) and doing and teaching it (Ezra 7:10).

BIBLE VERSE TO MEDITATE ON:

"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby."

(1 Peter 2:2 KJV).
